Christmas (Xmas) Traditions: Candy Canes
Candy canes began as straight white sticks which mothers used as pacifiers for their children. They were later bent into the shape of a cane and used along with cookies to decorate Christmas trees. Around 1900 the red and white stripes and peppermint flavor were added to the candy cane.
