Christmas Traditions: Molasses Sugar Cookie Recipe
This is an old time family favorite of the Claus family. Once you’ve tried this recipe you’ll probably want to double it.
¾ Cup shortening (Crisco)
1 Cup sugar
¼ Cup molasses
1 Egg
2 Cup sifted flour
2 Teaspoons baking soda
½ Teaspoon cloves
½ Teaspoon ginger
1 Teaspoon cinnamon
½ Teaspoon salt
Melt shortening in a 3 or 4 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; let cool. Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to first mixture. Mix well; chill dough. Form into 1 inch balls, rolled in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375º for 8–10 minutes.
