Christmas (Xmas) Traditions: The Manger
St. Francis of Assisi is generally believed to have introduced the manger scene to Christian tradition. He is supposed to have set up a stable with real people and animals to depict the spirit of the first Christmas. The crèche continues to be displayed in churches and homes as a remembrance and sign of faith.
