Christmas (Xmas) Traditions: Mistletoe

The use of mistletoe dates back to the time of the ancient Druids who believed that the plant had special healing powers and used the plant as part of their winter celebration. Mistletoe was also associated by the Scandinavians with their goddess of love, Frigga. Kissing under the mistletoe became a symbol of love. Before the Christmas Tree became popular in England, mistletoe was used in different Christmas decorations. While it has no Christian significance, mistletoe is used in homes as a sign of friendship and the spirit of the season.
